Bad Example!!

Another affect of all this switching Conferences..........

All this moving around sends a negative message to recruits... The life line of college sports!
Schools saying they are going to one conference but months later go to another…..
Thus the big trend in recruiting is to committee early to a school and then a month or so later decommittee from that school......
Reopen your recruiting as to take more visits while keeping the school you decommitted from around just in case you don't like the other places better....
But how can we blame the kids for not keeping their word???
When the adults in charge are doing the very same thing!!!
Whatever happened to a person’s word in all they have?
That used to be how people were measured....
Now it is all what can I get for me me me me me me me me me me.......
Is it the end of the world? No....
But it may be the start :(
One thing is for sure...
Both of these problems make coaching a lot less enjoyable!

All this Conference movement has become crazy!!!
Some AD's are chasing the all mighty dollar......
Some College Presidents want meaningless respect due to conference affiliation??? Crazy
None of which is in the best interest of the Athlete....
Traveling across the country creates longer trips...
This leads to more missed classes... Stupid!!!
Not to mention the higher cost of travel because if your Football, Men's and Women's basketball have to make all those long trips...
So does softball, baseball, golf, tennis, swimming ect....
You get the picture! Again Stupid!!
Especially in these hard economic times when people are struggling to pay their bills much less college tuition....
But the decision makers seem not care....
They do not even consulate their own head coaches....
Maybe the football coach?? Maybe??
We do not have to sacrifice this much to have profitable college conferences!
Never have before...
Bring back the Southwest Conference!!!!
Whatever happened to regional rivalries???
They are all about to disappear... SAD and UNNECESSARY

Who Should Care More??

It is hard when you can see it and they cannot....
When you want it for then and they seem not to care...
It is hard when you put the time and effort in to help and they struggle at every turn...
When all you get is attitude for making them do what they should be doing in the first place...
It is hard when you care more than they do...
When all they want to do is laugh and have fun... Never taking anything serious...
It is hard when you feel a sense of urgency....
When they think no matter there actions everything will turn out ok....
Why do young people not want to invest in their own future?????????

It is an old but true saying..... It just takes one to ruin the whole bunch.
A team is the same way....
Just one player can cause all kinds of problems for the other players and the coaches....
It is funny and sad that one player some how thinks that they can not or should not have to do what everyone else seems to have no problem with???????????
Why is this one person different or special? They are not!!
1) They are either not though enough to do the work
2) Have a self sense of entitlement
3) Have never been held accountable for anything
4) Maybe they are just pain lazy
What happens to this player????
Not any thing GOOD!
They just make things harder for themselves and everyone around them.
Until one day when they are told not to come back.
Sad and a true story that is repeated by our youth.

Pre Season

Basketball is beautiful when everyone is working together. It is an art form :)
NO SO MUCH IN THE PRE SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At this time of year it petty much looks like a "Monkey Humping a Football"
It is ugly and all over the place!!!!
It will get better... We will improve!!
And UTEP will have a great team this year :)
But why does it have to start off looking like we are trying to put square pegs in round holes???

I learned how to work from about age 9 on....
These kids today have no idea what it takes to achieve anything but a high score on a video game!

I had to wait til it was my turn....
Kids now want everything!
Even things I do not have at age 41..... And they want them yesterday!!!

If I talked out of turn there was a slap coming to the back of my head!! Ouch :(

Bill Damuth's confidence has rubbed off on the Hill College women's basketball team, even more so than the Lady Rebels could have imagined.

Taken to the wire Thursday by South Plains College, Hill won 70-63 in the first round of its first trip to the Region V Tournament. With a new coach and an entirely new cast of players, the Lady Rebels in one season have gone from 6-24 to 29-2 and No. 14 in the national rankings.
That requires some getting used to.
''At the beginning of the year, we never thought we would make it this far,'' Lady Rebels forward Shenequa Moore said. ''No one, not even coach, nobody.''
''We were praying for maybe a .500 season,'' guard Kristin Grassi added.
The Lady Rebels used 12 points from Vilma Tamuleviciute in the final 7:07 to make up a 53-50 deficit in the quarterfinal at United Spirit Arena.
After taking today off for first-round men's games, Hill is set up to face third-ranked Midland College (30-1) in a Region V semifinal at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Such scenarios are new to the players, but Damuth helped Trinity Valley Community College to four national championships and two runnerup finishes as an assistant the past seven years.
''I kind of had a little experience in that, and they believe in me is really the bottom line,'' Damuth said. ''If they didn't believe in me, we wouldn't have won 28 games this year.''
Tamuleviciute, a 6-foot-1 Lithuanian, had eight 3-point goals, five in the second half, to end the season for South Plains (20-9).
South Plains guard Kristin Whiteley said the Lady Texans game-planned to defend three players in particular. They held starting guards Sharee Glen and Tammie White to 0-for-10 and 0-for-2 shooting, respectively, but couldn't keep up with Tamuleviciute, who finished with 28 points.
''We were trying to, but they did a great job running her off of some picks, and we didn't get to her as quick as we wanted to,'' South Plains coach Lyndon Hardin said. ''She's hard to find a lot of times, because she does such a good job coming off the picks, and they did a good job setting them for her and getting her open.''
The Lady Texans thought a recent 8-point loss to No. 3 Midland proved they could challenge the nation's top teams. Against Hill, the Lady Texans got 20 points and 11 rebounds from Danelle Evans but came up with a similar outcome.
''I think our defense was a lot tougher against Midland,'' said South Plains center April Walker, who had 11 points.
It didn't help the Lady Texans that forward Aundrea Dawson and guard Monica Trimble each picked up three early fouls and wound up fouling out. Dawson, one of the team's top defensive players, took her fourth foul with 16:46 left.
''I felt like it had a tremendous bearing on the ball game,'' Hardin said. ''We had to sit those people I don't know how many minutes; it seemed like forever. We needed them on the floor in order for athleticism to be on the floor.''
Whiteley had 12 points and staked to the Lady Texans' to their largest leads of the second half 42-38 on a 3-point goal with 14:12 left, and 53-50 on a basket from the corner of the lane at the 9-minute mark.
''I think we had them where we wanted them,'' Evans said, ''but we just didn't execute on a couple of things and we didn't score for a while. We just had a dry spell for a few minutes and they pulled away.''

Start of a new year :)

Sitting in the office as the first players start to arrive to campus. This is always one of my favorite days of the year! Of couse I hate with a passion the first week of school. Because all week is filled with meetings, physicals and such.... No basketball at all :(
But then comes week 2 and we are off and running until April :)
